U10 - U14 Assigning FAQ
(A game a week ... that's all we ask)

Q:  Who does the assigning?

This year, Mike Grodzicki will be fitting the pieces together every week and assigning us to games.

Q:  How do I get on the list?

Hopefully, you're already receiving emails from the mailing list.  If not, follow the link to the administration page and subscribe yourself.

Q:  How do you decide what games I get?

Assignments are based on a few things:  availability, ability, and "fairness".  We only schedule you during periods you say you are available.  As for ability, the Referee Administration Team tries to keep a constant eye on the referees so that you're comfortable out on the field.  If you think you're ready for higher level games, let us know.  As for fairness, we try to make sure everyone does their share at all the age groups and at all the positions.  A U10 game can be even more fun that a U19 game.  Just stay out of their way!

Q:  How do I find out what games I'm refereeing?

Simply put - via email.  The schedule goes through quite a few revisions - starting on Monday night.  We try to have it buttoned up by Thursday night, but that depends on how many people send in availability.  On Friday night the last email goes out and we're off!

Q:  How many games are there?

Every week, we're asked to provide referees for about 30 games.   If we were to meet our goal of three referees on every game, that's 90 slots!!

Q:  I can only ref one game.  Is it worth it?

Absolutely!  If everyone on the mailing list volunteered to be a part of a single game, we wouldn't have enough slots to go around.  That's a problem we'd love to have.

Q:  What does the assigner need to know?

The best way to describe your availability is in blocks of time.  If you're available from 8:00a to 12:00p, that's when you'll do your games.  You'll probably get two or three, and we try to make them as close together (time and location) as possible.  We also need to know if you would like a mentor and if your son/daughter/sibling is playing.

Q:  When I get the email, what do I do?

Just hit "reply" and you'll send your availability directly back to the assignor.  Just let her know when you're available, any special requests and then hit "send".  You're on your way to getting games!

That's it!  Watch your mailboxes and we'll see you out on the field!
