Hosting an AYSO Trainer

Need?  San Carlos families to house four UK International trainers who will be working with San Carlos AYSO players and coaches this fall

When? Aug 25 – Oct 12, 2008

How many? We will have four visiting trainers who need to be housed

Why? It’s fun!  It will motivate your kids!  It’s a great way to give back to San Carlos!

Can you briefly explain this program to me?

This year San Carlos AYSO will be welcoming four experienced soccer trainers from UK International Soccer Camps.  These trainers will be providing extra programs and assistance to our coaches to help develop the skills of our players.  UK International also provides trainers in Foster City, Hillsborough, Cupertino and communities up and down the Peninsula.  To help integrate the trainers with the community, and to keep costs down, the trainers are housed by local families.  Over the years, the housing program has become an enormously successful experience for both the host families and the trainers. In fact, most trainers prefer family housing to hotel accommodations. The typical ages of the trainers are 21 to 35, and the majority are from the United Kingdom.

How can I learn about my coach before he/she arrives?

Individual trainers' profiles may be available before their arrival by calling Client Services at (909) 793-7759. Topics such

as likes and dislikes and dietary restrictions are listed.12 of 2

Can I host more than one trainer?

Absolutely...this choice is up to you. Typically, families host one trainer, although many have enjoyed housing two and three trainers at a time.

Do I provide meals for the trainer?

We expect you to meet only two basic needs: a bed and use of a shower (everyone will appreciate this!). While these are a coach's basic needs, host families have frequently offered much more, such as meals, use of a washer and dryer and inclusion in family functions. This is

up to you.

Do I need to provide transportation?

No, UK International provides transportation for all trainers. You should note that due to insurance guidelines, trainers are NOT allowed to provide rides for kids.

Will the trainer use my phone?

UK International trainers are NOT permitted to use the phones at family housing without your permission.  Even with permission, calls must be toll-free or local.

Can we schedule sightseeing experiences for the trainer?

It is up to the host families to decide if they want to schedule these experiences.  The trainers do often appreciate them. Families must realize, however, that the trainer's first priority is to work with AYSO. This, in addition to any social activities scheduled between the club and families

(e.g., barbecues), can make for a full week for the trainer.

Who do I call if I have any concerns during the week?

If you have any concerns or housing issues while hosting your trainer, contact the UK International Support Center at

(909) 793-7759.

Is there any scheduled time for the trainer to spend with our family teaching soccer skills?

Yes. We encourage you to set up a time with your trainer(s) where your child(ren) can receive some brief personalized soccer training.

If more than four families want to host a trainer, how will you choose ?

Trainers will be assigned to families on a first come first served basis.
